South Carolina Can't Trust Stumbo

DAVID STUMBO ISN’T WHO
HE SAYS HE IS.

He calls himself a “conservative, pro-Trump prosecutor.” But his record tells a very different story:

Political favoritism. Soft sentencing. Democratic endorsements. And catastrophic failures in cases involving children and violent offenders. South Carolina can't trust David Stumbo.

Stumbo Softened the Penalty for a Toddler's Rapist-Killer

David Stumbo’s campaign sells him as a “tough-on-crime conservative” who would push the hardest punishments for the worst offenders.
But in one of the most disgusting and horrific cases imaginable — a man who raped and murdered a toddler — Stumbo walked away from pursuing the death penalty and accepted a life sentence with no possibility of parole instead.

This wasn’t a technical legal decision.

David Stumbo took the death penalty off the table for a man who raped and murdered a toddler.
For the worst crime imaginable, he chose not to pursue the harshest punishment available under South Carolina law.

👉 The result? A man who kidnapped, raped, and killed a child will spend the rest of his life in prison — but will never face execution.

When the crime was the worst imaginable, Stumbo chose the lesser punishment.

A 14-Year-Old Was Shot in the Head. The Death Certificate Says “Homicide.” David Stumbo Still Refused to Prosecute.

In the death of Kaden Moses, a 14-year-old boy shot in the head, even the State of South  Carolina ruled the manner of
death “HOMICIDE” — “shot by another person.”
Stumbo admitted on camera it was not self-inflicted… and still refused to file any charges.

Despite evidence failures, contradictory statements, and a grieving family demanding answers, Stumbo claimed he “didn’t have probable
cause” — while applying standards closer to beyond a reasonable doubt to avoid prosecuting the case.

A prosecutor who won’t stand up for a murdered child won’t stand up for South Carolina.

Stumbo Wrote a Two-Page Letter Supporting Early Release for a Convicted Killer.

While branding himself as “tough on crime,” Stumbo personally wrote a lengthy letter urging the Parole Board to release Tiffany Janae Carroll, who was convicted of killing her partner. Even the Parole Board denied release the first time — but Stumbo pushed for leniency anyway.

When violent offenders want out early, Stumbo is ready to help.

If Stumbo Is Such a “Conservative Prosecutor,” Why Are Democrat Sheriffs Supporting Him?

Two currently serving Democratic sheriffs — Brian Wallace (Marion County) and Kenny Bamberg (Bamberg County)
— enthusiastically endorsed Stumbo’s campaign for Attorney General.

Democratic law enforcement leaders don’t back the most “conservative” candidate in the race.

They back the one who protects their political interests.

Democrats know Stumbo isn’t a real conservative. Do you?

If You’re Connected, Stumbo Cuts You a Deal.

When GOP insider Rick Caldwell was charged with breach of trust, Stumbo didn’t “throw the book at him.”

He offered a quiet plea deal with full restitution — no meaningful punishment, no high profile accountability, no tough-on-crime stance.

DAVID STUMBO IS THE ESTABLISHMENT’S PROSECUTOR — NOT YOURS.

  • He talks like a conservative.

  • He markets like a conservative.

  • He claims to be “tough on crime.” But his record shows:

❌ No charges in a child homicide
❌ Support for early release of a convicted killer
❌ Endorsements from Democratic sheriffs
❌ Leniency for insiders
❌ A habit of avoiding difficult, high-profile prosecutions

QUESTIONS RAISED BY HIS OWN DISCLOSURE FILINGS

What David Stumbo’s own disclosure filings reveal — and what they don’t.

South Carolina law requires elected officials and candidates to file Statements of Economic Interest (SEIs) so voters can understand income, reimbursements, and financial relationships connected to public service.

In his required filings, David Stumbo reported substantial mileage reimbursements associated with his official role.

According to Stumbo’s 2024 Statement of Economic Interest, he disclosed receiving a mileage allowance totaling $13,200.00.

In prior filings, mileage reimbursements were also disclosed, though only in aggregate form, without itemized detail explaining individual trips, distances, or specific purposes.

While mileage reimbursement itself is legal, the filings provide limited transparency, leaving voters unable to determine:

  • How frequently mileage reimbursements were claimed

  • What travel activities generated the reimbursements

  • Whether the travel was routine, extraordinary, or avoidable

For a candidate seeking statewide office and public trust, five-figure reimbursement totals raise reasonable questions about transparency and oversight.

Taxpayers deserve clarity — not just the minimum disclosure required by law.
